4 North American Vacation Destinations for Couples

North America has so many beautiful destinations to explore. But it doesn’t mean you have to drop a lot of money to visit them. Each of these four places has plenty of charm without a hefty price tag. No matter what sort of vibe you’re going for, one of these destinations will have something for you.

  1. Quebec City, Canada

Want to get French vibes without the transatlantic flight? Quebec City offers the brick castle and cobblestone charm without the price tag. There’s more than four hundred years’ worth of history here. But there are also plenty of free and inexpensive things to do that won’t break the bank. One easy way to do this is by taking a self-guided walking tour around the old city. There are plenty of public artworks to check out that will make you feel like you’re in Europe. For some cheap eats and a variety of events, stop by the Le Grand Marche. But if you want to get outside of the typical tourist areas, skip the taxi and hop on the city bus. Some of the best and most affordable neighborhoods include Saint-Jean-Baptiste and Saint Roch. With classic and trendy European vibes, Quebec City has plenty to do on a budget.

  1. San Jaun, Puerto Rico

One of the most popular destinations in the Caribbean, San Juan has plenty of options for those on a budget. Going during off-season times can help lower costs. May through June, as well as September to November, are the non-peak times. Despite being hurricane season, which to some is a drawback, the temperature usually remains in the 70s and 80s, making this place of eternal summer. While organized tours can help with getting out of the metropolitan area, most are expensive. Renting a car is only $24 per day, and this is a way to see more of the island as well. It helps that most places are within two hours of San Juan as well. Located close to the Condado beachfront, Miramar Food Truck Park offers both local and international dishes. While there are other similar parks, this is the most affordable. It is also a plus that it has a rotating selection of food and artisanal beers. While there a plenty of beaches in San Juan, head out to Culebra and Vieques. These cities have beaches that are less crowded but just as beautiful and pristine

  1. San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

Crowned as the best small city in the world by Conde Nast Traveler, San Miguel de Allende is like walking into a dream. It is a town with friendly vibes and everything that is authentically Mexican. For a unique look into traditional culture amongst a colonial Mexican backdrop, head over to the San Miguel Mask Museum. Opened in 2006, this museum is only a ten-minute walk from the Historic Center. One of the best ways to see how locals eat and shop is by visiting street markets. It is usually one of the most affordable ways to try local dishes of the place you are visiting. The best in San Miguel would have to be Mercado Ignacio Ramirez. Like most markets, you can find homemade art and rugs as well. Out in the countryside, you can find a venue by the name of Zanduga. Here you can sip drinks, listen to good music and eat local cuisine amongst the mountains of Mexico.

  1. New Orleans, Louisiana, USA

With its French roots, there is plenty to do in this vibrant city on a budget. Jackson Square is perfect for a stroll as well as people watching. Here you can catch a ride in one of the mule-driven buggies that line its blocks. Even blooms are in your budget. Just head on over to the City Park Conservancy. Frenchmen Street was once a hidden gem that has become popular amongst locals and tourists alike. For an authentic taste of New Orleans blues, this is the street to find. Snug Harbor and The Spotted Cat are amongst the best jazz clubs in town. Mardi Gras has become synonymous with the city. There are plenty of places to find more history on the world’s most famous celebration. At Arnaud’s, you can head upstairs to experience more of the history of the carnival itself.
